If you are reading this blog, you obviously want to learn how to write a blog or if you already know, you want to find out how to make it better.

But why are blogs so important?

Are they important for all industries?

Do they work as effectively for both B2B and B2C?

Yes and Yes!

Blogs will help your website with SEO(search engine optimisation) and SERP(search engines result pages), which means more traffic. When you have more traffic, you have the opportunity to show your visitors your products and services and effectively turn them into loyal customers.

This usually doesn’t happen from their first visit, but with good quality content they will keep on coming back. That alone translates into trust and trust is the first step to win a customer. Therefore you need to pay attention and follow my advice to get the results you want.

How to Write A blog that Converts:

  • Audience:

As always, the audience leads you. You need to know who you are talking to and why they will listen. The easiest answer would be your blog’s audience is the people you want to sell to. Think about who the decision-makers are in the industry you are into and how they are going to benefit from your advice.

Since it’s hard to ask them yourself, you can get a little help from search engine tools. Three very useful and free tools are:

  1. Quora: You can type in your industry and filter by questions or you can read the replies as well and check out the competition.
  2. Twitter: Twitter has the option of advanced search. This way you can find what people are talking about, hashtags or questions.
  3. Ubersuggest: A great tool that is free if you only do a few searches per day. If you don’t want limited access, then you should try pro.
  • Headlines that grab your attention:

It doesn’t matter if you have written the best blog post ever if your headline is boring.

8 out of 10 only read headlines, so you realise you have to make it a good one.

I have created a list with the headlines that tend to lead to more clicks:

  1. How to
  2. Guides
  3. Why
  4. Trending in the Industry
  5. Lists ~ for example, a top 10
  6. Infographics
  7. Case Studies / Profiles

And you can also try this free tool that’s called the headline-analyzer that will show you your headline’s score, as wells as, provide you with some advice for improvement.

  • Format:

People tend to skim through the content before they actually read it and sometimes they don’t even read it thoroughly. Actually, 59% of you will share this link without even reading it, a study shows. What this means for us as a society is a different story so I will just look at the marketing perspective.

What you need to do to help people skim through the content easily:

  1. White Space: Try to avoid lengthy paragraphs.
  2. Bullet Points/ Bold letters: Help the main points stand out.
  3. Images: They help the brain process information faster.
  • Optimise for SEO: Don’t forget to add the meta-description, meta-tags, keywords and alt-text for the images. This small step can make a big difference to your Google website ranking.
  • CTA: The reason you started writing your blog post in the first place. After you have managed to get more people to read your blog post you need to add your call to action. Don’t be afraid to use action verbs, a sign-up, a call, a download, just inform your audience what you can do to help them with your services.

That being said I hope that I helped you improve your blogging efforts. If you feel that you need more guidance, at Barnham Marketing we can build your content marketing plan together as part of your overall marketing strategy. Email us today, we are always happy to help you.
